Citizens of the global south remain outsiders forced to assimilate to the Eurocentric system, the so-called powers that be, and Senna faced many similar micro-aggressions that Lewis Hamilton is dealing with in 2020. Watching Senna, I could not help but notice the many parallels between Lewis Hamilton and Ayrton Senna: such as how they never quite felt accepted by the establishment at Formula One or the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the F1 governing body. I will say this though, the competition was a lot stiffer for most of Senna’s career (not something that Hamilton can control) as there were a lot more contenders for victory at every race owing to the presence of other all-time greats like Schumacher, Prost and Mansell. It would be silly to argue that Usain Bolt holds the World Record because of technological advances to footwear, yet some claim Hamilton is only good because of the car he drives. However, F1 is a sport about winning, and Lewis Hamilton has done that more than anybody else: numbers don’t lie.
